Watching pelicans and other birds fishing along the coast near Punta Gorda is one of the most enjoyable sights on a sunny morning. The pelicans dive from 4-5 metres from the surface often in synchronised pairs like these two. Further along the coast a Little Blue Heron stalks small fry in the shallow waters. While in the almond trees and mangroves by Garbutt’s Fishing Lodge at Joe Taylor Creek, one can always find roosting Yellow-crowned Night Herons. They are quite a large bird but when you capture them head on they are so slim that they seem to almost disappear.
